Introducing Lu Johnson with Therapy and the Body
One of my favorite online resources for therapists and clients alike is the podcast Therapy and the Body with Lu Johnson.
Lu Johnson is a body-centered psychotherapist based in Oakland, CA. In her private practice, she specializes in working somatically with individuals and queer couples. She has a Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology AND Counseling Psychology. (!!!) Lu is an artist and brings a lifetime of her own healing to her work with clients.
I’m a big fan of Lu and her podcast. She has a very inviting and warm presence. It comes through in her voice. Her podcast breaks down some big concepts in body psychology and trauma theory into digestible, accessible pieces. Perfect for clients with trauma to take in a little at a time. Or for those who only have bite sized chunks of time free, like the postpartum moms I work with.
In her podcast, Lu also talks to her therapist friends about their journeys into therapy and working with the body in psychotherapy. These episodes speak to me as they show the human side of therapists, breaking down the hierarchy that sometimes exists between therapist and clients. Therapists are real people, with real struggles.
